Fuel Saving Tips

0

Being a newbie car owner you need to start learning things and stuff about cars. . from Body kits to aesthetics, to engines to fuel tips. Now i stumbled upon one topic that’s worth sharing : FUEL SAVING TIPS
- An efficient driver can get at least 30% more mileage than the average driver and as much as 50% more than the wateful one.

- The most fuel efficient speed is between 75 to 95 kph. Tests conducted a 25% improvement in fuel economy when speeds are reduced from 120 to 80 kph
- Anticipate stops, slow down when approaching stoplight or intersection
- Avoid jack-rabbit starts. Gradual acceleration can save as much as one km per liter to rapid acceleration
- Combine errands. you’ll not only save fuel but also reduce wear and tear on your car

- Avoid fuel spillage. For full tank transactions, stop fuelling at the first click of the nozzle’s automatic sensor
- Follow a regular pm program
- Check and replace air filters regularly
- Keep tires properly inflated
- Use your car’s recommended grade of motor oil

Engine tips when cars are idle

SHOULD I SHUT OFF THE MOTOR WHEN I’M IDLING MY CAR

HERE’S THE RULE OF THUMB:
If you’re in a drive-through restaurant/business line or waiting for someone and you’ll be parked and sitting for 10 seconds or longer… turn off your car’s engine.

Why?? For every two minutes a car is idling, it uses about the same amount of fuel it takes to go about one mile. Research indicates that the average person idles their car five to 10 minutes a day. People usually idle their cars more in the winter than in the summer. But even in winter, you don’t need to let your car sit and idle for five minutes to “warm it up” when 30 seconds will do just fine. But you’re not going anywhere. Idling gets ZERO miles per gallon.

The recommendation is: If you are going to be parked for more than 30 seconds, turn off the engine. Ten seconds of idling can use more fuel than turning off the engine and restarting it. And when you start your engine, don’t step down on the accelerator, just simply turn the key to start. An alternative to idling is to park your car, walk inside, do your business and then go back to your car. Here are some other Myths associated with idling.

Myth #1: The engine should be warmed up before driving.
Reality: Idling is not an effective way to warm up your vehicle, even in cold weather. The best way to do this is to drive the vehicle. With today’s modern engines, you need no more than 30 seconds of idling on winter days before driving away.

Myth #2: Idling is good for your engine.
Reality: Excessive idling can actually damage your engine components, including cylinders, spark plugs, and exhaust systems. Fuel is only partially combusted when idling because an engine does not operate at its peak temperature. This leads to the build up of fuel residues on cylinder walls that can damage engine components and increase fuel consumption.

Myth #3: Shutting off and restarting your vehicle is hard on the engine and uses more gas than if you leave it running.
Reality: Frequent restarting has little impact on engine components like the battery and the starter motor. Component wear caused by restarting the engine is estimated to add $10 per year to the cost of driving, money that will likely be recovered several times over in fuel savings from reduced idling. The bottom line is that more than ten seconds of idling uses more fuel than restarting the engine.

I just got my 1st car

1

After numerous number of text and phone calls i finally got my car – my first car under 175K budget. Its a 1995 Honda ESI with D15b engine. So i guessed we have to scraped the “fuel efficiency” part since it’s a 1.6 liter engine. i’ll try posting a picture of “essing” by the way may car already has a name, once my camera has been repaired.
So what made me decide to get the car?

1. I loved the color

2. 17″ mags

3. Pioneer headunit

4. lowered

5. D15b engine
I already scheduled essing for an engine check /tune up change oil and wheel alignment.

Newbie Car under 250K budget : Planning Stage

1

Since i started working 3 years ago, i’ve been saving a small amount of my earnings for one purpose and purpose only – to buy my first car. I’m spending enormous amount of time  browsing forums and car reviews to help me decide which one to get under 250K budget.

What  are my primary factors :

1. reliability
2. fuel efficiency
3. Safety
4. Power

With a lot of car brands to choose from,  I will only stick to 2 manufacturers which i think is the best as based on the reviews that i read.

1. Toyota
2. Honda

Under that budget i’m hoping to get atleast  a 97 model but 98 would be better. I’m currently reviewing the head to head car comparison between a toyota GLI and Honda ESI or VTI.

and now the search for my first car begins …

Parallel Parking for Newbie Drivers

0

Since this blog is about cars, i want to inject some tips and techniques about driving intended for newbie drivers.  I prefer myself as a newbie driver even though i had my driver’s license 2 years ago. Reason: I don’t have my own car (yet) . I can only drive a vehicle when someone asked me to like my good ole buddy boss yuga. I don’t have problems with that at least i can hone my skill in driving. But the only thing that irks me the most is Parallel parking specially when driving Vans or SUV’s.  So i would to share to newbie drivers the simple technique i found on the web.
Here’s a simple technique in parallel parking :
A: Stop parallel to the parked car. Check if it’s O.K. to reverse. watch for th con of the parked car in the side window
B: turn the wheel to the left one full turn. Continue when safe. When the ends of the cars align, turn the wheel fully to the right.
C: Now you are close to the kerb and the parked car. Very slowly take off some of the right lock so you don’t swing in too far.
D: If needed you can move forward and backwards to straighten up.

interactive demo can be found here

After reading the simple tips you might want to ty this simulator. enjoy!

Toyota Vios 1.3

4

Me and my katukayo were talking about cars last night since he was almost convinced to buy a brand new 2.0 sedan. What kept him off from buying the car is his first love – a red 1997 Mitsu Lancer. My friend then asked me what will I buy if I’m in his shoes, and I said with that budget I’ll go for 2006 Toyota Vios 1.3 J. First reason is because it’s 300K cheaper and 2nd reason is because of its efficiency. With the fuel prices going up evey month you’ll definitely look for a 1.3 sedan. I also told him that two of my officemates sold there cars just to get a Toyota Vios 1.3 for one primary reason – Fuel Efficiency. A Manual transmission Vios 1.3 is boosting a 22.16km per liter that’s why it was awarded as “Most Fuel-Efficient Car in the Philippines” by the Department of Energy.
